video and installation notes: this two channel piece was conceived for venue called “skutečnost” (reality), which resides in the basement of czech inn hostel in prague - vinohrady. the male lavatories in the hostel have a very peculiar interior design: above the toilet bowl there is a narrow horizontal mirror which allows one to see one’s face when standing up and there is a similar mirror above the urinal at such height that one can see his own crotch when standing up. for these mirrors i staged an ambiguous and violent little event and transfered it downstairs into the gallery space on two television sets in two niches with mirrors so that the viewer can only see the tv screen in the mirror. venue “reality” doesn’t currently have lavatories - so all its visitors have to use those upstair in the hostel.
